MFNERC Science Fair

Student share their project with the MFNERC judge

Brilliant young minds of First Nations youth in Manitoba gathered for the Annual MFNERC Science Fair this March 25-26. Students from 28 different First Nations community schools, including nine MFNSS schools, presented over 150 unique science projects. It was a fun-filled two days during which students could visit displays from neighbouring communities, view robotic displays presented by MFNERC facilitators and the U of M, and watch a hip-hop dance routine presented by students. Judges from MFNERC selected 4 student scientists to take part in the Canada-wide Science Fair including an MFNSS student from Lawrence Sinclair Memorial School in Kinonjeoshtegon First Nation. Malachi Traverse, with the project title “Driver Safety Monitoring System: Solution for Drowsy Driving Prevention,” will attend the Canada-Wide Science Fair.
