Fostering a Love for Science in Bloodvein
March 11, Miskooseepi School held their local Science Fair, organized and coordinated by science teacher Jasmin Masangcay. In a fun and engaging science-packed day, all grades, Nursery through Grade 10 participated in the fair, demonstrating either group projects or individual projects. All students showcased their projects for teachers and fellow students to view in the afternoon. This included a rotation of classes during viewing and presenting. Grades Nursery through to Grade 2 shared larger group projects, which they worked on together. The Kindergarten class tested a recipe to make a play-dough-like substance and made a few batches of coloured dough for viewers to test out. Students in later grades worked on independent projects such as Grade 10 student Leena Green’s project, “Comparing Scent Through Botanicals.” Leena’s project involved adding local botanical ingredients to soy wax to investigate burn rate and scent throw. The fair included interactive stations where students could further participate in scientific investigations through painting rocks, handmade pulling carts, and Snap Circuit building kits. At the end of the day, students received prizes for their participation that will help encourage their interest in science and innovation.
