Residential School Bundle Review at Fox Lake School

Shirli Ewanchuk reviews material from the bundle for the group

February 19, Manitoba First Nations Education Resource Centre (MFNERC) facilitators Brenda Delorme and Shirli Ewanchuk delivered an overview of MFNERC's new Residential School Bundle, a kit consisting of books and resources for teachers and suitable materials for early learners and middle years learners. The professional development session prepared Fox Lake teachers and staff to incorporate lessons on residential schools and their lasting effects on current and future generations to lesson plans with accuracy and sensitivity to traumas caused by residential schooling. Brenda reviewed the sources provided from the morning to early afternoon, after which Shirli offered perspectives on reconnecting with indigenous cultures after the traumas of residential school. Teachers were given time to review the resources provided and ask questions on the bundle materials and lecture. MFNSS Facilitators, including Language and Culture Coordinator Geraldine Campbell and Social Studies facilitator Pam Boulanger, were also in attendance for the PD session to aid in the review.

Residential School Bundle Materials may be found in MFNERC's shop in the Teacher's Guides category.
